USPS tracking status
+USPS Tracking® provides complete tracking for each shipment. As a carrier, the United States Postal Service (USPS) tracking product provides end-to-end item tracking for domestic mail and packages that are large enough and addressed at domestic locations.
Entering the tracking number on a mailing label provides you information on the current status of said item. Also, if applicable, includes the date and time of delivery, and whether there was an attempt by the sender to deliver (mailbox, reception desk, neighbor, etc.). You cannot receive shipments without receiving a tracking ID.
USPS does not guarantee arrival, and will not facilitate delivery. The USPS does not charge for the service of tracking an item. An individual generally pays for one’s shipping cost, and if they choose to, they can track their package.
USPS provides tracking on two services which include international tracking information:
- First-Class Package International Service
- USPS Priority Mail International
How to track a USPS Parcel
First, to know how USPS tracking works, one should be concerned with the shipping label of the package. When you confirm your choice, you will be provided with a USPS tracking number.
Where can I find this number for USPS deliveries?
- the bill receipt for shipping your parcel,
- if you bought insurance at the post office, the sale receipt,
- the confirmation mail of the package order, if it’s coming from USPS.com;
- the receipt from the retailer;
- the bottom portion of a USPS delivery tracking label.
After you receive your tracking number, you can track your shipment via USPS.com.
- please enter the tracking number into the search field for USPS.com,
- you can send an SMS of the tracking number to 28777 (1USPS);
- download the U.S. Post Office Service mobile app for iOS or Android;
- contacting customer service at the post office via phone.

How to monitor delivery progress
Senders can track the delivery status of their parcels on the USPS website or use the label barcode tracking number. You can use package tracking services, as well.
Customers who want free tracking, First-Class Package International Service among others, must have the USPS package electronically tracked (online) with one of the following services:
- USPS Global Shipping Software (GSS) or approved USPS software providers.
- USPS-approved USPS postal dues payments (Endicia.com, Stamps.com).
- USPS.com (Click-N-Ship, Click-N-Ship for Business, Webtools apps).
The free online tracking feature is only available for items connected with Canada, New Zealand, France, Australia, Belgium, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Croatia, Brazil, Switzerland and, Israel.
Information on the delivery carrier and the date of the delivery are available with the international USPS package. This information includes the scheduled delivery date, the day when the package:
- left the country.
- originated in a foreign country.
- has arrived at the final destination address.
Tracking USPS products is not a difficult process. Always take care of your USPS tracking numbers. Also, it is important to remember that the USPS uses only one USPS tracking number throughout the USPS tracking process.
How to track USPS items using Informed Delivery Dashboard
If this is enabled, you can receive free digital previews of your new mail and manage incoming packages all on one digital dashboard (and without having to type in individual tracking numbers for multiple parcels).
1. Check out the USPS website.
2. Go to the “Quick Tools” tab and press “Informed Delivery.”
3. Sign up for the service or log in to your account.
4. Navigate to the “Packages” tab to check the status of all your incoming shipments. You will see a list of parcels in that tab.
5. Click the arrow icon for the item you are following.
6. Check the status of the item you are following.
How to track down a missing or delayed parcel
The USPS states missing mail as ” mail that has not been delivered by the expected delivery date,” that is, shipments that are not delivered, lost, or late. When you seek information from USPS, they’ll recommend waiting for a minimum of 7 days before action as your package may still be in transit or already delivered somewhere.
1. Check the current status of your package by following the tracking steps outlined above.
2. Complete an online help request form.
3. Then submit a Missing Mail search request.
How to track your USPS mail using your tracking number
- Enter your USPS number at the top of this website.
- Click on the tracking button on the same page. You can use a tracking service.
- Track your USPS package. You can get real-time information on the location of USPS products.
- You can keep checking the delivery status of your item.
The USPS international tracking service will ship packages to more than 190 countries. Select a mailing service based on the speed of delivery or on the price. The United States Post Office (USPS) offers the fastest transit options, including tracking and insurance. Click-N-Ship® postage payment service and a USPS online tool make it easy to fill out customs forms and print shipping labels.
To get tracking information on a USPS carrier parcel by phone requires you to dial 1-800-222-1811. You can also ask about certified mail delivered. The customer support representatives don’t have access to any additional information about the shipment beyond what is available on USPS.com. USPS doesn’t offer any further information about the shipment outside of what it makes available on their website.
While there is no such option as USPS tracking by address, you may deploy the Informed Delivery service as an alternative way to receive the destination information.
You can’t track a USPS parcel by phone number or order number, contrary to popular search queries.
Bottom Line
The COVID 19 days have indeed changed the business of shipping. As a mail business, USPS has adapted to changes in the times using the newest technology. As a general rule of thumb, you should figure out how you want your package delivered and the number of days you want it to take. This way you are able to know if USPS Post Office works for you.
Shipping is essential to the business planning process, thus shipping costs should be monitored.
